2014 SPRING BOOK SALE
SATURDAY, APRIL 19
9 A.M. TO 12 NOON
1309 BARD STREET, HERMOSA BEACH
The Bard Street Book Store has moved two doors down. The good news: our street address has not changed, and the new space is cozier and more welcoming. Three skylights, funded in part by a grant from Supervisor Don Knabe's office and installed by Hermosa's Public Works division, provide lots of natural light for the well-organized and clearly labeled shelves and tables. The HBFOL volunteers have been working long hours to transport books from the old space and build new shelves to hold them, and their efforts will be repaid by your thanks and, most importantly, by your continued support in coming to our store and buying books, CDs, and DVDs. Proceeds from sales continue to be crucial in maintaining the Hermosa Beach Library as a vital school and community asset. For example, from November 2013 through March 2014, the Friends paid for more than $4,000 in additions to the collection. Please help us by your patronage (buying and donating books and DVDs) and by using the coupon on the reverse side to become a member of the Hermosa Friends of the Library. Annual dues are payable by mail, at the book sale, or at the library circulation desk.
SATURDAY, APRIL 5: BARD
STREET OPEN HOUSE, 4-7 P.M.
Save the date and come to admire the new location, meet HBFOL officers and volunteers, join the FOL, and buy books. Refreshments will be provided.
These are still the lowest library book sale prices in the South Bay. We charge 50˘ for most paperbacks, $1 for most hardcovers, and $2 for some recent titles. As a one-time special to celebrate the new store, all DVDs will be priced at just $1 apiece, and all CDs will be 50˘. There s no limit on what you can take from the FREE shelves at the front entrance, so be sure to grab an armful on your way out. And please remember to bring your own recycled bags to carry home your new treasures.
MOTHER'S DAY GIFT IDEAS
We have many appropriate selections for moms on their special day; for instance, beautiful coffee table books, cookbooks, gardening books, travel guides, and of course hardcover fiction. And what better way to let Mom know she s heavenly than by a book or two about angels? All hardcover “angel” books will be priced at 50˘, as will all “little treasures” (small hardcover gift books that retail at no less than $5).
AND FOR FATHER'S DAY?
Try the True Crime section, plus books on World Wars One and (especially) Two, the Civil War (last chance for these), political figures, sports of all kinds, games and crafts, home repair––plus an angel book or two for Dad (why should Mom get all the credit?).
CHILDREN & YOUNG
Hardcover Harry Potter book collectors: this is the sale for you! Now you can fill in the gaps of your own set or start one for someone else. Also we have a number of Twilight Series books as well as an abundance of other fiction and nonfiction for young readers of all ages, including books by well-known “adult” writers like John Grisham and James Patterson. Don't forget to check the nearby shelves of animal books, not just about dogs and cats but more exotic creatures as well. The Children's Corner is in its usual spot, on the left as you enter the store, and as invitingly arranged as it was in the former Bard Street space.
